Automated Marketing – It’s not for everyone
Posted on February 3, 2016 by Nikki Lane
Over the last couple of years the latest marketing trend for small business has been the “automated marketing” tools. Everyone is telling you that you “have to have it” but I disagree, and here’s why.
First of all let me clarify what I mean by automated marketing tools. Software such as Infusionsoft or Ontraport where a customer or website visitor enters into an automated email marketing campaign based on the activity they perform within your business (what they’ve bought, where they’ve clicked etc.)
Now don’t get me wrong I can see the benefit in this for some businesses but I can’t stand it when people say “you HAVE to have it” just because it’s the latest trend. Every small business owner has the right to decide what will work for them in their business regardless of the trends.
And here’s why I don’t think they work for my business or other businesses who work on energetic connections with their clients.
The main reason is “the energetic connection is not there”. When we are dealing with clients who love our energy and want to know that we care about them, putting them into an automated email sequence just doesn’t cut it for me. Regardless of the intent of the emails when you set them up… at some point they are going to lose the energetic connection to you.
You also forget the content of your emails and don’t know who’s at what stage of the campaign. I’ve had this in the past when I’ve tried automated marketing and clients would say to me “oh, I loved your latest email” and I have no idea which email they are talking about. To me, that’s not caring about my clients or feeling connected to them.
The natural health space is a different industry to most. We stand out from the crowd with our honesty, authenticity, our caring natures and most of all our desire to nurture and help our clients with their health. So why lose that beautiful connection but automating it.
I understand that writing emails throughout the year can seem like a lot of work but I’d much rather send out great quality information when the time is right for my audience.
I’d much rather write an email that contain warmth, my energy at the time and the relevant information I want to impart to my clients. So whilst this article may rock a few boats, I totally believe Automated Marketing – It’s not for everyone.
