Why do you do what you do?

In most networking groups people ask “WHAT do you do?” but switch the question to “WHY do you do what you do?” and watch how amazingly different the answer is.

Knowing why somebody is running their business gives you such clarity about their message and understanding their passion for their business, it makes you want to work with them. 

The power of the ‘why’ message is enormous and it’s not just for meeting people at networking functions, it should be on your “About Me” page on your website so people can get to know you.

We are in a midst of a shift in the way people do business. More and more clients are driven by a desire for authenticity and honesty from a service provider. This is evident in the statistics that say the About Me is the 2nd most viewed page of a website. Why? Because people want to know if they can relate to you, if you share the same values as them and if they can trust you, before they even pick up the phone to call you.

Being authentic and honest in telling your “why” message allows people to see the real you. It’s what allows you to be different to your competitors and it’s why your clients will choose whether they want to work with you or not.

And don’t freak out, because if they chose not to, that’s totally okay because they would never have been your ideal client anyway.

So be honest on your website, let the world see the motivation and passion behind your business. Let them see your “big why” that gets you out of bed every morning and I can guarantee you’ll start to draw in more new clients as a result.
